Energy (Renewable – Alternative)
-
The distinction between an “alternative energy source” and “renewable energy source” is that “alternative energy source” indicates a source of energy that is used in substitution for some any form of fossil-based derivative energy source (a/k/a “nonrenewable energy source”, such as for example: coal; natural gas; oil; and, uranium), that will deplete as it produces energy, and once-depleted, will then be unavailable for millions of years until it can be regenerated in the various layers of minerals under the surface of this planet through natural processes, whereas a “renewable energy source” is a completely different type of energy source altogether, that theoretically is always available naturally, and thus never depletes (such as for example: sunlight; and, wind). Alternative energy sources may also be renewable energy sources (such as for example: sunlight; and, wind), and generally only cause negligible damage, if any, to the environment, whereas fossil nonrenewable energy sources may cause significant damage to the environment, and in many cases may be contributing causes to climate change.
